nikki celis.

A writer and multimedia creator based in Montreal, QC, much of my work focuses on culture, identity, music and the arts.
With a background in creative writing, journalism and communications, my work has been published in Noisey (Vice); the Calgary Herald; the Georgia Straight; Beatroute (Alberta); FreeFall Magazine, a Calgary-based literary magazine; and Arts Commons, a Calgary-based arts magazine.
I’ve also worked as a videographer and photographer for Sofar Sounds, a for-profit music organization; OutLoudYYC the Calgary-host for the 2016 Juno Awards; and has done client-based work for a number of small businesses.
For a time, I was the co-publication editor as well as the Arts & Entertainment editor for SAIT Polytechnic Student Association’s (SAITSA) student publication, the Weal (2014/2015). I have also worked closely with FreeFall Magazine as a digital and multimedia designer.

As a writer, my work featured in Noisey and Georgia Straight has had a notable influence among local, marginalized communities and has been read across Canada and the United States.
Recently, I was nominated for the Emerging Writer award for his non-fiction memoir “Spam” for the 2017-2018 Alberta Magazine Publishing Association (AMPA) awards.
On the side, I’m in a shoegaze band, cmfrtble. with my long-time friend Shae Brossard.
